You'd assume growing up at Neverland with Michael Jackson meant a childhood without limits — and in some ways, you'd be right. But Paris Jackson has just revealed the one thing her dad refused to let slide.

The Rule Michael Jackson Never Broke

Appearing on Jack Osbourne's podcast Trying Not to Die, Paris opened up about a side of her upbringing that rarely gets talked about. Yes, there were privileges — she'll be the first to admit it. But Michael was absolutely firm about one thing: his children had to earn it.

"There was a lot about my upbringing that was silver spoon-esque," she told Jack, "but there was so much of it that had to be earned. There was very much a focus on developing a work ethic."

And it clearly stuck. Paris, now 28, says she physically cannot switch off.

"I'm like a shark. If I stop moving, I'll die. It makes me happy to move and work and be productive."

The Question She Finds Utterly Ridiculous

Paris and Jack also bonded over something only the children of icons could truly understand — being constantly asked what it was like to have a famous father. Paris's answer? She's not having it.

"I think that's the silliest question in the world," she said simply. When you've never known anything else, there's nothing to compare it to.

The Grief She Carries Quietly

Paris was just 11 years old when Michael died in June 2009. Twelve days later, she stood on a stage in front of the world and said goodbye in a moment that stopped hearts everywhere.

She has previously spoken about a grief that never truly fades. "Time heals," she's said, "but it really doesn't. You just get used to it." She's described losing Michael as losing "the only thing that has ever been important" to her — and says everything else since has felt manageable by comparison.

Why She's Finally Going Private

Perhaps most tellingly, Paris revealed she's done feeling obligated to share her inner world with the public. It's a boundary she's clearly fought hard to claim.

"I don't really feel like any of us owe anyone anything," she said. "My relationship with him is the most beautiful relationship ever — and I'm allowed to be private about it."

Honestly? Good for her.
