A New York moment like no other
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are married. The world's most-watched couple officially tied the knot on Friday evening at Madison Square Garden in New York City, in a ceremony that shut down one of Manhattan's busiest corridors, lit the Empire State Building in a warm glow and sent thousands of devoted Swifties into jubilant scenes outside the arena in sweltering 37°C heat.
The surprise twist that nobody quite saw coming? The whole thing was officiated by comedian and actor Adam Sandler — a choice that, once announced, made perfect sense. Sandler has been a vocal champion of Swift for years, attending her Eras Tour concerts and championing the couple publicly on Travis Kelce's podcast New Heights, where he told the brothers that Swift "means so much to our house" and gushed about how well-matched the pair were from the very start of their relationship.
"When you guys first started dating, my family was like, 'Yes. Look how good they are together. He's a gentleman and she's having so much fun.'" — Adam Sandler on the Kelce brothers' podcast
Dior, Louboutin and a Man of Honour
Fashion lovers will not be disappointed. Swift's publicist Tree Paine confirmed that both the bride and groom wore Christian Dior Haute Couture, with Jonathan Anderson — creative director of Dior Women's, Men's and Haute Couture Collections — designing their looks in close collaboration with the couple. Paine noted that this marks the designer's first couture wedding dress created for a world-renowned celebrity, making it a landmark moment for the house as much as for the couple themselves. Their shoes were custom-made by Christian Louboutin, and Swift wore Cartier jewellery.

In a touching personal choice, Swift opted against having bridesmaids entirely. Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as her Man of Honour, while Travis's brother Jason Kelce — the beloved retired Philadelphia Eagles centre and co-host of New Heights — stood as Best Man. The brotherly symmetry felt distinctly on-brand for a couple who have made family central to their very public love story.
Around 7.30pm, LED signs outside the arena flashed the message "JUST&T MARRIED!" — a playful nod to Taylor and Travis's shared initial T, which had already appeared on guest merchandise throughout the celebrations.
A guestlist to match the occasion
With a guestlist of approximately 1,000 guests, the arrivals alone felt like a red-carpet event. Among those spotted making their way inside were actors Hugh Grant and his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein, Dakota Johnson, Ethan Hawke, Bradley Cooper and his partner Gigi Hadid, supermodel Karlie Kloss and husband Joshua Kushner, and singer Benson Boone, who arrived in a tuxedo. Several members of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs also attended. Rumoured live performances from the likes of Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw only added to the sense that this was a wedding designed to be remembered for decades.

The two-day celebrations had begun on Thursday with a smaller pre-party event, with permits filed with New York City officials ahead of time. By Friday, a pop-up tent had been erected outside the stadium to shield celebrity arrivals from the press, though the sheer volume of blacked-out SUVs made the event impossible to miss. The NYPD closed streets around the arena to both vehicles and pedestrians at midday.
$26 million in charity donations before the big day
In the days before the wedding, Swift and Kelce donated $26 million to at least 20 charitable organisations, including food banks, music education programmes, children's hospitals and national charities such as Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and Feeding America. Recipients were chosen to reflect cities of personal significance to both stars, from Kelce's hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, to Swift's birthplace of Reading, Pennsylvania.

Planning experts told the BBC the couple likely spent tens of millions of dollars to rent out Madison Square Garden for the occasion — a figure that underlines just how singular this event was. As one New York resident watching from the barriers put it, the whole spectacle was "sort of absurd" — and yet entirely, unmistakably Taylor Swift.
