There is something deliciously pointed about throwing a £300,000 masquerade ball at the very place that once turned you away. Kanye West marked his 49th birthday at the Palace of Versailles last weekend — the historic French royal château that famously denied him and Kim Kardashian permission to marry there over a decade ago. This time, nobody was saying no.

Ye arrived with wife Bianca Censori, a tight circle of around 20 close friends, and an outfit that covered every single inch of his body. Bianca, for her part, covered considerably less.

The Most Versailles Entrance Possible

The architect-turned-fashion-muse, 31, made her entrance in a nude-coloured satin corset bodysuit finished with dramatic feather accents strategically placed to cover her face and lower body, paired with an ultra-long silk train that swept behind her across the palace floors. Ye, meanwhile, committed entirely to the masquerade theme from the opposite direction — head-to-toe black, including a full face mask, leather jacket, matching trousers and gloves. Together, they looked like two sides of the same surrealist coin.

The couple and their guests took over a private wing of the palace for the evening's festivities before moving on to the ultra-luxurious Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle, where the night continued until dawn. According to reports, the bill for the hotel portion alone came in at just under $400,000 — a figure that would raise eyebrows on most streets but barely registers as a footnote in the Ye universe.

The Venue Kim Kardashian Never Got

The Versailles connection adds a layer of unmistakable irony to the whole affair. Kanye and his then-fiancée Kim Kardashian toured the palace ahead of their 2014 wedding, hoping to make it their venue — only to be refused. The pair ultimately married in Florence, Italy. Versailles did, however, open its doors for the nuptials of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and singer Carla Bruni, making the rejection of Hollywood's then-biggest power couple all the more stinging at the time.

Kanye and Bianca had already begun the birthday celebrations earlier in the month, with Bianca directing the music video for his track GEMINI SEASON, which dropped on 8th June — his actual birthday. She also paid tribute to her husband on social media ahead of the Versailles weekend.

"Happy birthday @ye. I love you more than life," she wrote in one post, calling him her "ride or die 4ever" in a second.

Bianca's Ever-Bolder Fashion Moment

For those who follow celebrity fashion, Bianca Censori has become one of the more compelling figures of the moment — partly for the architectural precision of her looks, and partly for just how far she is willing to push them. Since marrying Kanye in a private California ceremony in December 2022, the Melbourne-born architect — who holds a master's degree from the University of Melbourne and joined Yeezy as Head of Architecture shortly after graduating — has steadily evolved into one of fashion's most talked-about presences.

Her most discussed look to date remains the near-sheer nude dress she wore to the 2025 Grammy Awards, though her Versailles corset is already competing for that title. Whether the outfits are a personal statement, a shared creative project with Kanye, or something in between remains a question that neither of them seems particularly keen to answer — which, of course, only adds to the intrigue.

Ye, for his part, turns 50 next year. If the Versailles spend is anything to go by, the milestone birthday planning may already be underway.
