It was the holiday almost-encounter that had everyone holding their breath. Brooklyn Beckham and wife Nicola Peltz came within a five-minute walk of his estranged parents David and Victoria in St Tropez last week — and somehow managed to avoid them entirely.

The 27-year-old and Nicola, 31, have been holidaying in the south of France aboard the superyacht of Brooklyn's godfather, Sir Elton John, soaking up the French Riviera sunshine with the music legend and his husband, David Furnish. Meanwhile, David and Victoria Beckham — along with Brooklyn's brother Romeo — were relaxing on their own vessel in the same stretch of coastline and had ventured ashore at almost exactly the same time.

Five Minutes From a Family Showdown

According to reports, the two parties were photographed on the same day in St Tropez, just minutes apart. Brooklyn and Nicola were spotted browsing at Jacquemus and grabbing ice cream at a nearby parlour, accompanied by David Furnish. His parents, meanwhile, made their way into the Cherry Restaurant for lunch — joined, reportedly, by basketball legend Michael Jordan and his wife Yvette Prieto. The two sides never crossed paths, despite the venues being a mere five-minute walk from one another.

It is thought to be the closest the family have physically been in more than a year, as the celebrity feud shows no signs of cooling down.

Furnish later commented warmly on the couple's Instagram posts from the trip, writing: "So lovely having you both to stay with us."

The Rift Behind the Near-Miss

The backdrop to this awkward geographical coincidence is a family falling-out that has been building for years. In January, Brooklyn published a lengthy statement on Instagram making a series of explosive allegations against his parents. He claimed his mother hijacked his first dance with Nicola at their 2022 wedding in Palm Beach, and accused both parents of trying to undermine his marriage.

"My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song... She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone."

He branded his parents "performative" and alleged that Nicola had been disrespected by the family, including not being invited to David's 50th birthday party. Brooklyn also alleged that Victoria had pulled out of making Nicola's wedding dress at the last minute. He has since instructed his parents to contact him only through his lawyers.

Neither David nor Victoria has publicly responded to Brooklyn's specific allegations. Victoria did address the broader situation in a candid interview with the Wall Street Journal, though she declined to be drawn on the details.

"We love our children so much. We've always tried to be the best parents that we can be... all we've ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children."

Reports have also suggested that relations between Brooklyn and his parents were already strained well before the wedding itself, with a source telling the Daily Mail that the two sides were not on speaking terms for some three months before Brooklyn and Nicola married.

Elton's Villa Beckons

After the near-miss in St Tropez, Brooklyn and Nicola headed to Sir Elton's £15 million villa in Nice, where the couple spent time with the music icon and Furnish in what appeared to be far more relaxed surroundings. Furnish's affectionate comments on both Brooklyn's and Nicola's social media posts suggested the stay was a warm one — a sharp contrast to the tension hovering just a few miles down the Riviera.

For now, the Beckham family feud appears no closer to resolution. David and Victoria have reportedly made several attempts to extend an olive branch to their eldest son, but Brooklyn has so far continued to keep his distance. Whether the near-miss in St Tropez was entirely coincidental — or carefully choreographed to avoid disaster — remains anyone's guess.
