Release Date Shifted Again

Sean 'Diddy' Combs has had his prison release date pushed back once more — this time following a reported altercation with a fellow inmate at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed on Tuesday 4 August that the music mogul is now eligible for release on 20 February 2028, a date that has shifted several times in recent months alone.

Just days before the announcement, Combs had been due for release on 24 January 2028 — itself a revised date from February 2028, which had previously been brought forward from April 2028. The revolving timeline reflects the complex calculations involved in federal sentencing, including good behaviour credits and programme participation.

Fight, Solitary, and Silence From the Bureau

The latest setback follows reports that Combs was involved in a physical altercation at FCI Fort Dix at the end of July. According to ABC News, another inmate made a remark to Combs that reportedly instigated the incident. Prison staff broke up the fight, and Combs was subsequently moved to solitary confinement, though the duration of that placement remains unclear.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons has declined to elaborate, as is standard practice. A spokesperson told reporters the agency does not comment on the "conditions of confinement, disciplinary matters, or other information regarding individual inmates due to privacy, safety, and security concerns." FCI Fort Dix similarly refused to confirm the solitary confinement move to TMZ, stating the information "would not be available for the public domain."

"At this point we do not have the necessary information to respond with any clarity," a spokesperson for Combs said last week, when asked about the release date changes.

The Conviction and What Comes Next

Combs, 56, is serving a 50-month sentence handed down in October 2025, after being found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted on the more serious charges — two counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering conspiracy — following a trial that ran from May to July 2025. He has maintained his innocence throughout.

At sentencing, Judge Arun Subramanian ordered Combs to pay a $500,000 fine and complete five years of supervised release upon leaving prison. The judge's words to Combs in court were notably direct.

"There's a true path to redemption here. What went wrong and what can be made right," Subramanian told Combs during the hearing.

While incarcerated, Combs is participating in a drug-abuse rehabilitation programme, which the Bureau of Prisons says can reduce a sentence by up to a year — a factor likely contributing to the earlier-than-maximum release projections.

Assets Seized, Items Authorised for Handover

In a separate development reported on the same day as the release date update, the judge in Combs' criminal case signed an order authorising federal authorities to take possession of items seized during his arrest and the subsequent raids on his properties. Among the confiscated items are multiple iPhones, iPads, and hard drives, as well as $9,000 in cash taken from the Park Hyatt Hotel on 16 September 2024.
