She stepped onto the red carpet glowing in all white, baby bump proudly on show — and it looks like Aubrey Plaza may have given us one extra piece of news along the way.
The Emmy-nominated actress, 41, attended the world premiere of her new film The Accompanist at the SVA Theater in New York City on 4th June as part of the 2026 Tribeca Festival, and eagle-eyed fans watching footage from the event believe they caught the Parks and Recreation star quietly revealing the sex of her baby.
The Moment Everyone's Talking About
Dressed in wide-leg white trousers and a flowing sleeveless top — accessorised with pale yellow open-toe heels for a subtle pop of colour — Plaza looked effortlessly chic as she cradled her growing bump on the red carpet. It was during an emotional reunion with her co-star Susan Sarandon that the apparent reveal unfolded.
Footage from the event shows Plaza lifting her top so Sarandon could see her bare belly, with the veteran actress sweetly shielding her from the cameras. Sarandon then appears to ask about the baby's gender — and Plaza's response, caught on video, seems to be a clear: "It's a girl."

Neither Plaza's representatives nor Sarandon have officially confirmed the exchange, but social media has been buzzing ever since.
A Baby on the Way — and a Big Career Moment
Plaza first confirmed her pregnancy in April, revealing she is expecting her first child in the autumn with her partner, actor Christopher Abbott. The couple, who have kept their romance largely private, first met on the set of the 2020 film Black Bear before falling for each other while co-starring in the off-Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023.
Speaking to The New York Times, Plaza opened up about what makes Abbott such a natural match for her — on stage and off.
"He cares, but he also doesn't care; it's the best recipe for me for a scene partner. It's fun, and it's also good, and it's also safe. We're both unafraid to be ugly and weird and strange."
Abbott has since made his first public comments about the pregnancy during an appearance on the Today show, while Plaza herself spoke candidly about her excitement at becoming a mother on the Smartless podcast.

The joyful news of Plaza's pregnancy comes after an extraordinarily difficult period in her personal life. Her estranged husband, writer-director Jeff Baena — with whom she had quietly separated in September 2024 after marrying during the pandemic in 2021 — died suddenly in January 2025, aged just 47. The pair had collaborated on several films together over the years, including Life After Beth, The Little Hours, and Spin Me Round.
In a joint statement with Baena's family, Plaza described his death as "an unimaginable tragedy" and asked for privacy during the mourning period. She later spoke with characteristic honesty about processing grief on the Good Hang podcast hosted by her Parks and Rec co-star Amy Poehler.
"At all times, there's a giant ocean of just awfulness that's just right there, and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it and be in it. And sometimes I look at it, and sometimes I just try to get away from it, but it's always there."
