Back on the market — with caveats

Jessica Simpson has a message for any admirers thinking of making their move: the DMs are open, but standards apply. Speaking to TMZ this week, the 44-year-old singer confirmed she's ready to start dating again following her separation from husband Eric Johnson — and social media could be where her next romance begins.

Asked whether she'd be open to people sliding into her DMs, Simpson's answer was a simple, unambiguous yes. When pressed on whether that was an acceptable approach, she was equally unfazed. Then came the kicker.

"I mean, if you're verified, maybe."

It's a very 2025 kind of romantic prerequisite — and one that tells you everything about where celebrity dating now lives. For Simpson, who built her career on a certain guileless charm, the quip landed perfectly: flirtatious, self-aware, and just a touch discerning.

A decade of marriage, now behind her

Simpson, 45, and former NFL player Eric Johnson announced their separation in January 2025 after ten years of marriage. The couple wed in 2014 and share three children together: daughters Maxwell Drew, 14, and Birdie Mae, 7, and son Ace Knute, 12.

Despite the split, the pair have been focused on keeping life as settled as possible for their children. In April, a source close to the family told People magazine that both Simpson and Johnson were "committed to being the best possible parents they could be, having a harmonious relationship and supporting their kids".

The transition has been notably low-conflict by Hollywood standards. Reports emerged the same month that Johnson had continued living at the family home while they worked towards selling the property. "The goal has been to keep everything as stable and as friendly for the kids as possible," an insider said, adding that the former couple "still have a great relationship" and remain focused on co-parenting.

A new chapter, on her own terms

For Simpson — who first became a household name with her 1999 debut single I Wanna Love You Forever and later starred in the reality series Newlyweds alongside her first husband Nick Lachey — this marks the start of a very public new chapter. Her romantic life has rarely been out of the spotlight, and it seems she has little interest in changing that now.

There's something refreshingly unbothered about the way she's approached the question. No carefully worded statement, no conspicuous silence — just a candid chat with a camera crew and a perfectly timed caveat about account verification.

Whether anyone with a blue tick is brave enough to make the first move remains to be seen. But if Simpson's track record in the celebrity world is anything to go by, she won't be waiting long.
