Shocking new claims have emerged suggesting that Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, was not subjected to standard safety checks when he arrived at a Santa Monica sober living facility shortly before his death — allegedly because staff were too overawed by his family's celebrity status to enforce the rules.
According to a source speaking to Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice Substack, the young model was allowed to enter Resolutions Living on the evening of 19 September without being searched — a routine procedure at such facilities — despite staff allegedly already knowing he was under the influence of drugs.
"Presley wasn't treated like an ordinary resident. He was famous, his parents were famous, and people were intimidated. Nobody wanted to be the person patting down Cindy Crawford's son."
The source alleged that Gerber arrived at the facility at around 6 p.m. and that staff had been warned in advance of his condition. He was found dead inside a bedroom at Resolutions Living on the morning of 20 September. Police have said no foul play is suspected, though authorities are investigating the death as a possible overdose after Gerber reportedly went into cardiac arrest. His official cause of death remains deferred pending further testing.
A System That Failed Him
TMZ has since obtained video footage reportedly filmed by Gerber himself inside the sober house around 10 p.m. on the Saturday evening — hours before he was found dead. Sources with direct knowledge told the outlet that Gerber had become frightened after getting high on Saturday afternoon and losing a sense of control.
His sober coach, sources said, contacted Resolutions Living and disclosed that Gerber was already intoxicated — and was still told to bring him in. Experts who spoke to TMZ described this as a fundamental breach of protocol. Owners of multiple rehabilitation facilities told the outlet it is a cardinal rule in the industry never to admit someone who is actively high to a sober house, given that such facilities typically lack the medical staff to manage acute intoxication safely.
According to those sources, the plan had been to transfer Gerber to a dedicated rehab facility the following Monday. The sober house admission was intended as a stopgap for the weekend — but Gerber was left there without supervision. Sources connected to Resolutions Living subsequently told TMZ that the admissions officer who approved his entry was fired. TMZ said it had made multiple attempts to contact the sober coach, the fired admissions officer, and the owner of Resolutions Living, and had received no response.
A Family's Heartbreak
Sources close to the Gerber family paint a picture of years of anguish. According to insiders, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber had invested enormous effort into supporting their son — pursuing therapy, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and various alternative treatments. They reportedly employed more than one sober coach, who were described as being with Presley "almost always."
The family had also tried to channel Gerber's energy into creative pursuits, encouraging him to work as a model and photographer — anything that brought him joy and purpose.
"He had a stretch of time in the winter where he was clean, and his family was thrilled," one insider explained, adding that his "last year" had "become especially bad."
Separately, new claims have emerged that a doctor prescribed Gerber ketamine despite his known struggles with the substance. People close to him are reportedly furious and questioning the doctor's decision. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding his death, and his autopsy has been completed, though results remain deferred pending additional testing.
Remembered With Love
Amid the mounting questions about institutional failures, those who knew Gerber personally have spoken warmly of the man behind the headlines. His ex-girlfriend Cameron Rorrison, 28, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram Stories on 27 September, one week after his death.
"Anyone who was lucky enough to have the gift of knowing Presley will know him and remember him for his wide open heart, his inspiring compassion and incredible understanding," she wrote. "One of the most amazing things about him was his humanity and his unique way of making every person, no matter who, feel as brilliant and important as the next."
Gerber was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. on 20 September by responding paramedics. He was 27 years old. A full autopsy was completed the following day.
