There are celebrity fitness posts, and then there are celebrity fitness posts that come with a genuinely interesting backstory. Jessica Alba's latest mirror selfie — shared from her home gym on 24 August — falls squarely into the second category.
The 45-year-old appeared in a burgundy athleisure set: a micro sports bra, high-waisted leggings, layered gold necklaces, and her brunette hair swept into a low bun. No filter, no fuss — just an impressively sculpted physique and a refreshingly candid explanation for how she got there.
Dark Angel Did the Heavy Lifting
Alba has never been shy about crediting her early career for the physical baseline she still benefits from today. The foundation, she says, was laid on the set of her early TV role.
'I attribute my athletic body to the martial arts, gymnastics, dance, and strength training I did while filming Dark Angel. That's made me strong and really set the bar.'
It is a refreshingly honest take in an industry full of vague references to 'clean eating' and 'moving my body.' Alba is essentially saying: I did an extraordinary amount of physical work in my twenties, and my body remembers. What she does now is maintenance — and smart maintenance at that.
Her current regime blends high-intensity workouts with flexibility training, including Iyengar yoga. Her personal trainer Ramona Braganza told Shape that Alba finds the practice — which focuses on holding poses for longer periods — particularly valuable. 'She finds it very beneficial for stretching her body out,' said Ramona. In September 2025, she also shared a full-body morning workout routine programmed by trainer Betina Gozo Shimonek, who noted that Alba's results come down to 'consistency and discipline. Even on the days she doesn't feel like it, she shows up and puts in the work.'
The Mental Side Matters More Than the Mirror
What sets Alba's approach apart from the average wellness influencer is her emphasis on how exercise makes her feel rather than how it makes her look.
'If you can just do it two or three times a week, a little bit of exercise whether it's yoga or going for a walk or cycling class or something — go for it. For me it really is about how I feel after I exercise.'
Speaking to E! News, she kept it refreshingly low-pressure.
What Goes on the Plate
The physical results are not just about what happens in the gym, of course. Alba's approach to food has roots going back well before she became a household name — as a teenager she chose to go vegan, teaching herself to cook separate meals from scratch while the rest of her family ate meat and dairy.
That early instinct toward mindful eating deepened considerably during her first pregnancy in 2008, when she began researching hidden chemicals in everyday household and food products. The research ultimately shaped both her family's diet and the philosophy behind her business, The Honest Company, which she built around avoiding synthetic, hidden ingredients. Her household staples reportedly include kale, green smoothies, and blueberries, with fast food and heavily processed snacks largely off the menu.

Speaking to HELLO! Fashion in 2015, she offered a simple guiding principle: 'Having some sort of balance and moderation is key. I eat really fresh food, don't eat anything processed or a lot of fried foods.'
The Honest Company has not been without controversy — it faced legal action over claims its organic baby formula contained synthetic substances not permitted in genuinely organic products — but Alba's personal commitment to keeping unnecessary additives away from her family's plates appears to have remained consistent throughout.
At 45, with three children and a business empire alongside her acting career, Alba seems to have found a version of healthy living that actually sticks. Dark Angel may have set the bar, but everything since has been her own work.
