Picture the scene: BTS have just swept the biggest prizes of the night, the Pussycat Dolls are bringing 2005 roaring back to life, and then — out of nowhere — Fergie appears. Hand in hand with will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo. For the first time in eight years.

The Reunion Nobody Saw Coming

Fergie left the Black Eyed Peas back in 2018, and the split was never exactly loud on sentiment. So when she walked out onto that Las Vegas stage on Monday night, jaws hit the floor.

The occasion? The group's 2009 banger Rock That Body picking up best throwback song — a win powered entirely by fans flooding TikTok and Instagram with nostalgic videos.

"I want to thank everyone who made TikToks and Instagram videos making this moment possible so that my son would put our song on his playlist."

She even joked about her own kid being the reason she was standing there. Honestly, same energy as discovering your mum still knows all the words to a club classic.

BTS Make History — Again

Of course, the night's headline act was always going to be BTS, who claimed artist of the year for the second year running. They beat Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga to do it — no small feat.

The seven-piece also took home song of the summer for Swim and best male K-pop artist, continuing their world domination tour that's already banked a staggering $1 billion since March.

Swift, despite going in with eight nominations, left empty-handed. That's a headline all of its own.

The Rest of the Winners' Roll Call

Sabrina Carpenter had a stellar night, winning album of the year for Man's Best Friend alongside best female pop artist and best pop album. Justin Bieber claimed best male pop artist.

Meanwhile, Golden — the viral track from animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters — was crowned song of the year, and UK-Swedish star Zara Larsson picked up two awards including collaboration of the year with PinkPantheress.

Rock legend Billy Idol received the lifetime achievement award, delivering a triumphant set of 80s classics. "We thought it may last only about six months, let alone 50 years," he told the crowd. Reader, it lasted fifty years.
