He's been stripped of his titles, evicted from Royal Lodge, arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, and now faces an investigation that has expanded to include sex crimes. By most measures, Prince Andrew's world has collapsed around him — yet according to those close to the situation, the Duke of York is not going quietly. Far from it.
Sources close to Andrew paint a picture of a man consumed by grievance, convinced that King Charles is engaged in a deliberate campaign to erase the entire York branch of the Royal Family — and determined to fight back.
"Make no mistake, this is a man who's hell-bent on revenge and with nothing much left to lose. He's become the epitome of a nightmare for the royal family as a whole and boy don't they know it."
That assessment, from an insider quoted by Closer magazine, cuts to the heart of what royal watchers are now describing as Andrew's most dangerous phase yet. Having spent years as a peripheral and increasingly embarrassing figure within the institution, he now reportedly believes he has little left to protect — and everything to gain from making noise.
Beatrice and Eugenie Thrust Into the Fray
Central to Andrew's reported strategy is his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. According to The Mirror, Andrew has been actively encouraging them to maintain a high-profile presence in royal circles — leveraging the fact that King Charles is known to be genuinely fond of both women.
The clearest recent example came at the wedding of their cousin Peter Phillips to Harriet Sperling, where Beatrice and Eugenie arrived alongside their husbands without any attempt to avoid photographers — a marked contrast to the low profile many expected given their father's circumstances. Reports in The Mail suggested the brazen attendance was no accident, with Andrew allegedly urging his daughters to attend and "hold their heads high."

Royal historian Andrew Lownie told The Mirror that Andrew would have "absolutely" encouraged them, noting that he does not believe his daughters have done anything wrong. Lownie also suggested the princesses are entirely aligned with their father's outlook, viewing their lifestyle — attending events, supporting commercial ventures, accepting royal perks — as entirely normal given who they are.
"They're princesses of blood and should be treated properly. They just take it as natural that they should be able to support Saudi businesses and be paid to attend events. That's what they've done all their lives."
Notably, both Beatrice and Eugenie continue to occupy royal residences for which, according to recent reports, they are not paying rent — with King Charles reportedly covering the costs. It is a detail that underscores the complex web of family loyalty and financial dependency that makes Andrew's position so difficult for the Palace to navigate cleanly.
'Thrown to the Wolves'
What appears to be driving Andrew's reported rage is a deep sense of personal betrayal. The insider quoted by Closer said he has "convinced himself that Charles is deliberately trying to erase him," refuses to take "even a shred of accountability," and regards the treatment he has received as "a disgrace."
Lownie echoed this reading, suggesting Andrew's grievances extend beyond the present King. He believes Andrew feels he has been thrown to the wolves — partly in defence of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, whom Andrew reportedly also feels was treated poorly. The historian noted that Andrew's list of enemies within the family has grown considerably: he was rude about the Princess of Wales, never warmed to Queen Camilla, and broadly dislikes anyone he feels has "rumbled" him. His remaining allies within the family, Lownie suggested, amount to just the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.

The timing of all this matters. Andrew's legal jeopardy has deepened in recent months, with the investigation into him now encompassing sex crime allegations. He settled a civil case with Virginia Giuffre in 2022 without admitting liability, but the shadow of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal has never fully lifted — and appears now to be darkening further.
Whether Andrew's reported "revenge" amounts to anything more than family friction and pointed gestures at weddings remains to be seen. But as those around him make clear, a cornered Andrew with nothing to lose is proving far more disruptive than one who still had a reputation to protect.
