Three minutes. That's all it takes. Viewers tuning into Prime Video's brand-new drama Spider-Noir are reporting they're utterly hooked before they've even had a chance to put the kettle on — and honestly, we're not surprised.
The Role Nicolas Cage Was Born to Play
Oscar winner Nicolas Cage steps into his first-ever leading television role as Ben Reilly, a world-weary private investigator haunting the fog-drenched streets of 1930s New York. Years ago, he was the city's only superhero. Then tragedy struck, and he walked away. Now, duty has come knocking — and Ben must face everything he buried.
It's a darker, grittier spin-off from the Spider-Man alternate universes, and it feels like nothing else on telly right now. Oh, and you can watch the whole thing in gorgeous black and white or full colour. Your choice.
The Moment Nobody Saw Coming
Critics and viewers alike have been left genuinely gobsmacked. Empire handed it a rare five stars, calling it an "absurdly brilliant, brilliantly absurd concoction" that somehow works as pure genius on screen. The Guardian and The Telegraph both awarded four stars, praising its wit and confidence.
"The visuals are stunning, the tone is dark, and Nic Cage's performance is perfection."
Viewers on social media have been equally effusive, with one fan declaring the show "absolutely fantastic" after just one episode. The series currently sits at a seriously impressive 91 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Not Everyone's Convinced — But You Might Be
It's not completely unanimous — Variety felt style won out over substance, and The Hollywood Reporter called it a disappointment. But when the overwhelming reaction is joy and disbelief at how good this is, those dissenting voices feel rather lonely.
If you've been sleeping on your Prime Video subscription, consider this your wake-up call. Spider-Noir is streaming now.
