Anne Hathaway is pregnant. The 43-year-old actress confirmed she is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman on Friday, sharing the news via Instagram in a video that felt as cinematic as anything she has put on screen.
Set to the swooning 1965 classic Baby I'm Yours by Barbara Lewis, the clip shows Hathaway walking into frame with her arms folded across her stomach — then lowering them to reveal a blossoming baby bump. She captioned the post simply: x Baby, I'm yours x. Within 45 minutes, the announcement had amassed over 850,000 likes.
Third Time Lucky
The couple already share two sons — Jonathan, 10, and Jack, six — and married in 2012 after meeting at the Palm Springs Film Festival in 2008 through a mutual friend. The road to parenthood has not always been straightforward: Hathaway suffered a miscarriage in 2015, before welcoming Jonathan in 2016 and Jack three years later.
Speaking to People magazine about the experience of announcing pregnancies on her own terms, Hathaway reflected on how meaningful it is to control her own narrative.
"I just feel very lucky. I know that not everybody who wants to be a parent gets to be. And I'm just blown away by how fortunate I am."
She added that making the announcement herself — rather than having it broken by a photographer — felt genuinely empowering. "That was one of the first times that I ever realised I got to make the announcement myself, which was really, really cool," she said.
A Year That Just Keeps Giving
The pregnancy news arrives at what may be the most professionally charged moment of Hathaway's career. The actress currently graces the cover of ELLE UK's July issue, and her new film — Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, in which she stars alongside Zendaya and Lupita Nyong'o — is in cinemas this week. Speculation had already been swirling that she might be pregnant during the film's press tour.

That is only one of five major films she has on release or in the pipeline this year. She reprised her role as Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and is also set to appear in Mother Mary — described as a psychosexual pop thriller — the sci-fi film The End of Oak Street, and the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel Verity, alongside Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson.
In her ELLE cover interview, she was disarmingly candid about how good life feels right now — with a characteristic self-awareness about the privilege of saying so.
"I'm having the most wonderful time with my family, living in the city of my dreams, and work seems to be going really, really well. So, rather obnoxiously, I'm having a great time as everything else burns."
The Man Behind the Bump
While Hathaway is one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood, her husband Adam Shulman, 45, tends to stay firmly out of the spotlight — though he is far from a passive presence in her life. A Brown University graduate who began his career as an actor, Shulman later pivoted to producing and jewellery design. He co-founded the fine jewellery brand James Banks Design in 2011 alongside designer Heidi Nahser Fink, and also designed Hathaway's striking six-carat emerald-cut engagement ring.
The two also collaborated professionally on the 2014 indie drama Song One, which Shulman produced and Hathaway starred in. "He's really good at this, and he's a wonderful producer. I feel like I actually learned a lot from him in the process," she told People at the time.

In her ELLE interview, Hathaway spoke with evident warmth about what it means to have found the right partner. On marriage, she said it is "such a big deal to share your life with someone" — and that finding someone who makes sharing feel like a gain rather than a compromise is genuinely rare. "I do feel like I found that," she said, "and I don't take it for granted."
With a Nolan film in cinemas, a bumper slate of releases still to come, and a baby on the way, it is shaping up to be quite the summer for one of Hollywood's most beloved stars.
