Forget the filters and the vague non-answers — Barry Manilow has decided that at 82, total honesty is the only way to go. And honestly? We're here for every word of it.
The Quote That Stopped Us in Our Tracks
In a candid new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the "Mandy" singer was asked point-blank whether he'd had any work done. He said no — then immediately corrected himself.
"I must say: There was one time when we lived in L.A. that I did do a facelift. But after that, it's just been a little here, a little there. I see something falling down, sure, I'll do that."
He also wants you to know he skips the Botox entirely — because when you've had a facelift, apparently you don't need it. Fair point, Barry.
The Line His Friend's Mum Said That Says It All
Rather than being sheepish about it, Manilow is practically gleeful. "I'm as vain as anybody else," he laughed, before sharing a gem of a story about an old friend's mother who once remarked she always knew he was talented — but wondered when he'd got so handsome.
He describes himself as looking "fantastic" — and given everything he's been through recently, that confidence feels hard-won rather than hollow.
The Health Battle Behind the Smile
This upbeat interview follows an incredibly tough year. In late 2025, Manilow revealed a stage 1 lung cancer diagnosis, discovered after months of brutal bronchitis. Surgery removed part of his left lung, left him under 130lbs, and forced him to postpone a string of arena shows.
He's been on the treadmill three times a day to rebuild his strength — though his doctor has warned his body isn't quite ready for a full 90-minute set just yet.
The 15 Years of Cruelty He Never Forgot
Perhaps what makes his self-acceptance so powerful is knowing what came before it. Manilow previously told The Guardian he endured 15 years of "relentless, horrible" criticism — about his music, his songs, and his looks.
"If you wanted to get a big laugh, you would mention my name," he said quietly. He'd pull the covers over his head — then get up, get dressed, and go to the sound check anyway.
Vain? Maybe. Unstoppable? Absolutely.
