He may have grown up watching his mum light up the big screen, but Kate Hudson's son Ryder Robinson is clearly ready to step into the spotlight himself — and at 6ft 2, he'll certainly be hard to miss.

The 22-year-old turned heads this week after Kate shared a sweet Instagram tribute to her fiancé Danny Fujikawa on his 40th birthday, posting a photo in which Ryder stood shoulder-to-shoulder with his stepdad, the pair matching brilliantly in sleek black tuxedos. Ryder wore a tailored black suit over a crisp white shirt with a silk bow tie, while Danny opted for a similar look with a black bow tie — and the resemblance between the two was enough to make fans do a double-take.

"Another year around the sun for my favourite guy. The best partner and the best dad. Happy birthday baby @fujikawadanny," Kate wrote in the caption.

First in the Family to Graduate

The birthday post came hot on the heels of another major milestone for the Hudson-Robinson clan. Ryder recently graduated from New York University's prestigious performing arts school — a moment Kate described as genuinely historic for their famous family.

"He's graduating from college this year, can't believe it, so exciting," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I think he's the first in like three generations to graduate from college."

The graduation ceremony was quite the star-studded affair, with mum Kate, dad Chris Robinson — frontman of rock band The Black Crowes — and grandparents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell all turning out to cheer him on. Ryder's girlfriend, who also graduated on the day, was there too.

The Craft Comes First

With Hollywood royalty on both sides of the family, it would be easy to assume Ryder might fast-track his way onto a film set — but Kate insists her son is taking the long view.

"He's really focusing on college, he's not trying to get in front of the camera just to get in front of a camera," she explained. "I think when you grow up in our family… you gotta understand the craft and believe it in a different way if you're gonna do it."

Ryder has already dipped his toe in, appearing alongside his mum in Netflix series Running Point and in short film Sweet Tooth. Kate says he wants to be doing "good work" — a refreshingly grounded ambition for someone who could easily trade on his surname alone.

More Than Just an Actor

Acting isn't Ryder's only string to his bow, either. The 22-year-old has a passion for designing and building furniture, and he plays guitar in alternative rock band The Codependence — something that no doubt pleases his rockstar dad.

Kate welcomed Ryder when she was just 24, during her marriage to Chris Robinson, which lasted from 2000 to 2007. She also shares son Bingham with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and daughter Rani Rose with Danny Fujikawa, to whom she got engaged in 2021.

With a NYU performing arts degree under his belt, a Netflix credit already on his CV, and what sounds like a fiercely determined work ethic, Ryder Robinson looks very much like Hollywood's next rising star — whether his famous family like it or not.
