Lionel Richie has been hospitalised for the third time since June after suffering further heart complications during his ongoing tour, with his team confirming he has undergone a procedure for atrial fibrillation — an irregular heartbeat — as three upcoming concerts are cancelled.

The 77-year-old music legend, currently on the road with Earth, Wind & Fire as part of his Sing A Song All Night Long tour, is reported to have become unwell towards the end of his most recent concert, struggling to breathe before being taken to hospital. Shows scheduled for San Francisco on Saturday, followed by dates in Chicago on 30 September and Columbus, Ohio, on 2 October, have all been postponed.

He was released on 2 September, with sources telling PEOPLE magazine that he was back in Los Angeles and doing well.

This latest setback came just weeks later — and this time, the procedure required appears more targeted, suggesting doctors have identified a specific cardiac issue they are now actively treating.

The timing is particularly difficult given the demands of a major touring schedule. Richie's Sing A Song All Night Long tour has been a significant undertaking, and the repeated health scares mid-run have placed both the artist and his touring partners in an unenviable position.

Earth, Wind & Fire have also faced their own medical challenges on this tour. In early August, a concert at San Francisco's Chase Center was cancelled just minutes before showtime due to a medical emergency involving a member of the band — a separate incident from Richie's ongoing health concerns.
